Book Description:
Facing an unstable future, Chela Prizeon leaves Castle Hayne and crosses over to enemy territory in pursuit of Faris--the boy of royal blood who is cursed by a bitter rival. But soon Chela learns that he has been taken deep into the treacherous frozen prisons--a majestic, but deadly place where people enter and are never seen again. To find the boy she loves, Chela must join forces with one of her greatest enemies. And even though she pulls strength from the good in her powers, she finds herself drawn to the dark side's temptation as well.

Narrated from both Chela's and Faris's point of view, this enchanting sequel to When Copper Suns Fall will take them on a voyage into unknown lands, where the dark, twisted, and revengeful wait to make this their most dangerous journey ever.

Author Bio:

I live in the City of Alchemy and Medicine, North Carolina. I write about people doing fantastical things in magical worlds. Sometimes they fall for each other and make sacrifices for their friends. Oh, and sometimes they love music and nature too. I live with my two sons,a guinea pig, a cat, and two dogs. Now that I have completed my MFA in creative writing, I find that I have a little extra time to play CLUE more often. I live in an L-shaped house dedicated to my grandmother. It has a secret library complete with fairies, venetian plastered walls, and a desk made out of clear blue glass.

The Lost Immortals: When Copper Suns Fall is my debut novel.

Chela

In my dream, I feel his suffering as though it’s my own. Every burn, each tingle, and the agonizing way he screams from inside that awful dark chamber. Lying in my bed, I think of the kiss we shared the last time I saw him, the day he told me that his spirit would always be with me. I only have to turn around and he’ll be right there.
My eyes fly open as I grasp at the air around me, reaching for him, but finding emptiness instead. Then the tears fall, and they keep falling.
My mind shuts down one cell at a time. Even breathing takes a lot of effort. It’s like my lungs are a balloon, and his breath contains a magical type of helium; something that only the luckiest girl can find…and lose.
“Faris.” I call his name out loud, hoping with all my faith that he hears me. Is it possible for us to connect even with so much distance between us?  I have to try. If he can hear me, then our link will pull him through whatever they’re doing to him in that horrible place.
I can’t just sit around and wait to hear news about his death. I have to do something.
“Chela. Can I come in?” Lexa stands in the doorway to my room. I didn’t even hear my best friend open it. She walks over to the bed and sits down. Her kind, dark eyes fill me with warmth after so many cold nightmares have left me shivering.
“Baby, you’ve been in this room for almost a week. Jalen and I miss you. Come back to us.” She strokes my hair and laces her fingers with mine.
An image of Mrs. Needlemeyer’s corpse flashes through my mind. Lexa’s small gestures are just enough to make me sit up and bury my face in her shoulders. I’m terrorized by nightmares about Faris when I sleep, and I have visions of Mrs. Needlemeyer’s death when I’m awake. Oh yeah, I almost forgot about the nightmare with Jalen getting mauled by a wild bull. Eventually, I guess, I’ll lose my mind and find peace. Who am I kidding? That’s the coward’s way out of the situation. I can’t just give up. I won’t do that to my friends, or Faris. After a long moment, I pull back and stare at my best friend.
“You got snot on my school uniform. Well, at least that’s a start.” I glance at Alexa’s face as she checks out her shirt. Looking up at me, she wrinkles her nose.
“Eew, gross,” we both say at the same time. We burst out laughing, covering our mouths as we giggle. She’s right. Smiling is a good start. This is the way my friends make me feel, happy inside, a love that fuels the power that still sleeps in me.
And then I hear a boy’s voice speak in my mind.
The world around me disappears, and my heart stops.
“Chela, I heard you. By the lights, I heard you,” Faris calls out to me, pain inside every syllable he manages to speak.

Chela’s Dream

At once, my body lifts. I move forward, the mystery power pulling me directly toward him. My entire body warms up the closer I get to his, a tease of the heated way I felt only moments before we were torn apart. Instead of Faris biting me or breaking my neck the way everyone says he can, he pulls me against his chest.
Burying my face inside his warm fur, I soon begin to feel my body lighten and change. My bones snap and my arms and legs twist in several directions.
I should feel pain, but I don’t.
What’s happening to me?
Okay, somebody wake me up now.
The area around us flashes in and out of focus just before everything goes dark. The shade only lasts a few seconds. When the world comes back into view, I find myself down on the ground, straddling my hands and knees that have turned into paws as though I’m a cat, a really big one.
The Beast and I have merged together, a single being. Our heartbeats are the same. My thoughts belong to him. His willpower belongs to me. Faris and I will always be a part of each other. This isn’t only about some ancient bond. This is love. Tried, true, and tested by the time we’ve spent apart, months stolen by a war that our ancestors started.
Up ahead, the trees shuffle. I snap my massive jaws toward them. A group of Outcasts steps out of the bushes. My roar startles this strangely dressed group of rebels, but it doesn’t keep them from advancing toward me.
“Wake up, Chela! They’re coming for you!” Faris’s panicked voice calls out. My eyelids flutter open.

Faris Hears Chela Call His Name

The shackles tighten around my wrists and ankles, digging deep into my flesh. A burn eases into my skin. I take a deep breath and wait for the fiery feeling to pass. Curse it. I can hardly move, let alone think.
Chela, I’m coming for you.
If you can hear me, know that I can survive this.
I’ll do it for you…for us.
A small band of light shines through the windows above me, The beam gives the metal chamber a touch of softness as a single ray of light shining on my face.
“I ask you again, Faris Toulan. Is this girl worth your life? Your immortality? Or what’s left of it anyway,” Olivia hisses into my ear, a sneer on her face. I stay silent, refusing to give in. She grasps my chin and forces me to look at her face. In exchange for Olivia keeping quiet about Chela’s true identity, I’ve agreed to remain here as her prisoner.
I glance deep in her empty eyes, and say: “Yes. Chela is everything to me. She’s all that you will never be. Your tricks can’t remove what I feel for her.”
Icy eyes glare at me. Her harsh laughter rips through my soul. The kindness she showed me earlier disappears at once. I don’t care. All I hope for, all I ache for is a chance to see Chela again. I promised to return as the Protector she needed me to be. I refuse to go back as the thing she is cursed to destroy.  That will only hurt her more than I’ve already done. I intend to keep my word.
“I do hope you understand what you’ve agreed to do,” Olivia says in a low, but deadly voice, her breath on my ear, her cold fingers stroking my face.  “By the time I’m done with you, there won’t be any other name you’ll call except mine. That’s how long you’ll beg for mercy.”
She moves closer to my face and kisses my lips. I want to gag. Inside, I’m already screaming. But her torture, or whatever her plans are for me are nothing compared to facing a life without Chela. By thinking of our love, her laugh, even the way she sometimes annoys me, I can handle anything Olivia does.
Hell most definitely exists. I’m fairly certain I’m about to experience it in full force.
And then, I hear Chela call my name.
